What’s exciting about this project is the potential that putting LED together with an intelligent locking system can unlock. It has a great future not only in the leisure industry but for schools, airports, high security and so on.

Terminal 5, Heathrow Airport, London

Europe and the world’s most successful airport development. It has been designed to accommodate up to 30 million passengers per year. The new home of British Airways occupies a 260 hectar site and includes 60 new aircraft stands, a quarter of which facilitate the new Airbus A380.

The main terminal building is over 400m long and consists of 5 floors including a spectacular rail station on the basement level of Concourse A. The rail and tunnel system provides a full passenger interchange to London’s public transport system and a Track Transit System to move passengers from the main building to two satellite buildings.

Powershield Personnel and Fire doors and frames are being supplied to fit-out specialist contractor Swift Horsman in both Terminal 5a and the Train and Tunnel System.

With the project nearing completion, a fast turnaround on delivery was of paramount importance to the contracting team. The quality of all sub contractors had to match the high standards set by BAA and following a supplier appraisal process it was clear that Powershield could deliver both in terms of both quality and service.

Powershield supplied the doors and frames with integral wraparound stainless steel kick and push plates and a factory-applied polyester powder coated finish. All doors were also fully prepped to receive the customer’s preferred hardware.
Almost 500 doorsets in total were manufactured for the project.
Powershield are part of the ASSA ABLOY group. They manufacture a range of high-performance steel doors and windows, tailored to contract specifics and client demands. Powershield doors have been used across a diverse range of projects, including:
