Radio-frequency identification (RFID) is an automatic identification method, relying on storing and remotely retrieving data using devices called RFID tags or transponders. An RFID tag can be incorporated into a product, animal, or person for the purpose of identification using radiowaves.

The bottom line is that RFID is now being used for security, safety, error prevention, anticounterfeiting, cost reduction, increasing sales, entertainment, crime prevention, customer convenience and art and there is more to come. It is rather as if we had just invented the wheel… or paper.

90 Park Lane, Croydon, Surrey is an exclusive town centre residential development. The complex includes city apartments, offices and a gym. Security for a significant proportion of 90 Park Lane is provided by ASSA locks and door furniture, including a custom designed ASSA CLIQ electronic master key system incorporating programmable keys and cylinders. CLIQ provides the complex with access control functionality such as audit trails as well as ensuring lost or stolen keys can easily be barred, helping to maintain the overall security of the complex. The system was supplied, installed and commissioned by an ASSA certified locksmith in March 2007.

Challenge

To provide residents with access control functionality without making their home feel like a business environment. The solution had to combine 21st century technology within a traditional key and lock setting. Ease of installation and maintenance was also vital as residents’ use of the complex shouldn’t be affected.

Solution

The project involved design and supply of ASSA Modular locks combined with ASSA CLIQ electro-mechanical keys and cylinders. ASSA CLIQ offers the functionality of stand alone access control, but it can be designed for expansion to cope with future change and development. Keys as well as doors (cylinders) can be added and removed via easy programming and its electronic capabilities will also allow the client to completely control the access to the building.

Benefit

ASSA CLIQ adds electronic intelligence to standard mechanical locking. Lost or stolen keys can easily be removed from the system. Keys can be given limited access to areas, as well as time controlled zones. The system records audit trails to help maintain the integrity of the building’s security. ASSA CLIQ requires no cables for installation and can be easily installed in the same way as a mechanical lock system and is significantly cheaper to install than an access control system. ASSA CLIQ offers lasting cost-effective security over time ensuring that security is never compromised.
