The ‘Hi-O doors’ make servicing easier and precisely identify any problems. With old systems you get an indication that something is wrong, but then you have to work out which of numerous components is the source of the problem.

PROFILE 36: Aiding the specifier on education projects

The government’s Building Schools for the Future programme has brought a major investment in secondary school construction.

The DCSF, in consultation with the industry, has drawn up standard specification packages of door ironmongery for use on all typical applications within a school.

This guidance is intended to set out minimum performance requirements and create a standardised series of doorset types. It thus offers ease of specification, economies of scale and simplified maintenance.

The guidelines are not mandatory in order to not restrict innovation. Alternative products may be used to meet specific local requirements or to take advantage of new technology.

At ASSA ABLOY Door Solutions, we have produced a useful guide setting out which of our products meet the requirements for each standard package and can therefore be specified with confidence on any school project. We can also advise on selecting doors, and we work closely with manufacturers to allow us to supply factory fitted doorsets with pre-installed ironmongery. This speeds installation and ensures consistent quality of fitting.
