PROFILE 36: A breath of fresh air
A good security system should be as invisible as the air to its users. The freedom to go anywhere you ought to be able to go is essential – but just as importantly, when an intruder tries to get in you must have tough, reliable security.
Access control gives maximum convenience combined with monitoring and control functions, but this flexibility comes at a price – traditional systems are expensive to install and run and complicated to program.
Smartair from ASSA ABLOY Door Solutions is the answer.
Smartair Q&A
Why is Smartair so easy to use?
It’s a proximity system, so getting through the door is just a matter of holding up your token to the reader.
How is physical security ensured?
Smartair is used in conjunction with heavy duty ASSA Modular and Evolution Scandinavian lockcases.
What access control features are offered?
Features include real-time clock, calendar with schedules and time zones, user groups, user blocking and auto-expiry and full audit trail.
Where can Smartair be used?
On practically any door – internal or external, standard or narrow stile. A wall reader is also available for off-the-door installations.
How is the system set up and controlled?
It can be programmed at the door or by user-friendly software on a central PC to control the system. Smartair can handle up to 1,500 users per door.
How do you reprogram the system?
Smartair’s update-on-card option allows you to utilise user tokens to reprogram the door units automatically as people operate them. Alternatively a portable unit is available for manual reprogramming.
Is battery life a problem?
Each unit offers 2-3 years or over 20,000 operations, with the three standard AAA batteries provided.
What about cost?
Smartair is a standalone system with no expensive cabling needed – making it about 1/3 the cost of standard access control.
